About the Assistant Accountant Role

The Assistant Accountant will play a vital role in supporting the company’s financial operations through accurate record-keeping, cost tracking, and effective management of receivables. This full-time position requires a detail-oriented and disciplined individual who can ensure financial processes are executed with precision and timeliness.

Key Responsibilities for Assistant Accountant Jobs in Lusaka

  • Payments Management: Process supplier invoices, staff claims, and other payment requests in compliance with company policies; prepare payment vouchers and secure proper authorization; reconcile payments with bank statements; monitor payables and ensure timely settlements; manage petty cash and NHIMA payments for staff; assist in monthly payment schedules and cash flow forecasts.
  • Budgeting & Financial Planning: Support the Finance Manager in preparing annual budgets and forecasts; monitor departmental spending and report variances; compile financial data for reporting purposes; analyze costs for control and efficiency; ensure adherence to financial regulations.
  • Accounting & Reporting: Accurately record financial transactions; assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; generate smart invoices for clients; maintain organized filing of financial documents; follow up on debtors and collections; track logistics costs and important deadlines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, or ZICA certification is an advantage
  • Minimum of 2 to 3 years’ experience in accounting roles
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and regulations
  • Proficiency with Sage, QuickBooks, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel
